- 161 cm height works naturally beside an armchair
- Marjut Nousiainen designed the coordinated Two Cups lighting family
Two Cups is a floor lamp designed around the practical combination of direct and indirect light. Its two light sources can provide focused illumination for reading or working, while light directed towards a wall or ceiling creates softer indirect illumination for the surrounding space. At 161 cm high, the floor version is particularly well suited beside seating or in a corner where supplementary light is needed.
Direct reading light or indirect ambient illumination
The key idea behind Two Cups is the ability to use light in different ways. It can be directed towards the area where task or reading light is required, or towards a wall or ceiling to create indirect illumination. In indirect use, the reflected light provides a softer lighting effect without a bright light source pointing directly towards the viewer.
The floor lamp is especially well suited beside an armchair as a reading light. It can also be positioned in a room corner to add light to an area that would otherwise remain comparatively dim. This allows Two Cups to work as both a local light source and part of a layered room-lighting scheme.
Metal construction with two compact shades
Two Cups is made from metal and has two shades measuring 16 cm in diameter. The collection uses rounded forms to create a recognisable design without requiring a large conventional fabric shade. Two colour options are available: matt black and matt white.
Matt black creates a clearly defined silhouette, particularly against pale walls and furnishings. Matt white provides a lighter alternative for interiors where the lamp is intended to blend more closely with surrounding surfaces.
At 161 cm high, the floor lamp positions its light above much of the nearby furniture while remaining a freestanding solution that can be placed independently of a ceiling connection.
Two replaceable E27 bulbs
Two Cups uses two E27 lamp holders, each rated for a bulb up to 40 W. Bulbs are not included. The replaceable format allows the colour temperature and luminous output to be selected according to the intended use and the rest of the room lighting.
For reading, bulbs can be selected to provide a suitable amount of practical light. For more relaxed evening use, the emphasis can instead be placed on a warmer or lower-output lighting effect. Matching bulbs are a practical choice when consistent colour and brightness are wanted from both light sources.
The power switch is positioned on the cord for straightforward everyday operation.
Designed by Marjut Nousiainen
The Two Cups collection was designed by interior architect and designer Marjut Nousiainen. It forms part of the Design by Grönlund collection and includes matching floor, table and wall lamps.
Across the family, metal construction, two E27 light sources, 16 cm shades and matt black or matt white finishes create a consistent identity. The same direct-and-indirect lighting concept can therefore be used at floor, table and wall level.
